Oruro conspiracy 1739

Synopsis
Known as the "conspiracy of Oruro", this attempted revolt was led by Juan Vélez de Córdova, who established an alliance with the cacique Pachacnina, thus mobilizing Creoles, Indians and mestizos. This rebellion was mainly a response to the repercussions of the economic measures promoted by the viceroy of Peru, Marquis of Castelfuerte. The revolt was planned to take place on September 8, 1739, during the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin. However, one of the conspirators, Bernardo de Ojeda, denounced the conspiracy to the royal authorities before it took place. With this information, the corregidor of Oruro, Martín Ezpeleta y Villanueva, captured Juan Vélez de Córdova and the main people involved, who were sentenced to death on July 5, 1739 and executed the following morning. One of the most relevant characteristics of the movement was the manifesto entitled "Memorial de los Agravios" written by Juan Vélez de Córdova, which is considered by historians as a political and economic program.
